Green Acres Program Nonprofit Application — State of New Jersey
PURPOSE: Educational Arts Team is seeking funding through the State of New Jersey Green Acres Program for improvements at Liberty State Park, located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive, Jersey City, NJ 07305, at its intersection with Audrey Zapp Drive, in the City of Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.
PROJECT SCOPE: Educational Arts Team proposes to renovate the following facilities at Camp Liberty: the outdoor bathrooms, outdoor pavilion roof, pavilion storage closets and back walls, basketball court, handball court, pool, playground, and garage/multipurpose storage space. This application does not propose tree removal.
PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT: A copy of the full application will be on file at the offices of Educational Arts Team, 300 Morris Pesin Drive, Jersey City, NJ, 07305, and is available for review and comment. Written comments on the proposed application may be directed to Roxy Arrojo, Executive Director, roxy@educationalartsteam.org
We would like to fix or upgrade the following:
Outdoor Pavilion: Repair or replace the existing roof to provide a safe, weather-resistant space for year-round outdoor programming, including performing arts activities and community events.
Pavilion Storage and Back Walls: Rebuild and repair the closets and back walls of the pavilion. This area is used to store children’s bags and lunchboxes, as well as recreational and program supplies. The rear portion also needs to be leveled and stabilized, as the area is currently sinking.
Basketball Court: Resurface and update the basketball court to provide a safer, more functional recreational space for children and community members.
Handball Court: Replace or improve the existing court surface to create a safer and more usable area for recreation.
Pool: Upgrade the pool and related features to improve its safety, functionality, and long-term usability for campers and community participants.
Playground: The playground is approximately 16 years old and would benefit from an update or replacement of aging equipment to provide a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate play environment for children.
Estimate: $128,999.00
Garage/Multipurpose Storage Space: Improve the ceiling and overall condition of the garage, which serves multiple purposes throughout the year. From May through November, the space is used by the Educational Arts Team for board games and as a sheltered area for children when rain prevents use of the playground. During the winter months, it primarily serves as storage for board games and program materials. Upgrading this space would allow it to continue functioning safely and effectively as both a recreational support space and storage area.
Outdoor Bathrooms: Insulate and upgrade the existing outdoor restroom facility to support safe, comfortable use throughout the year and ADA compliance. The restrooms currently lack insulation and sufficient toilet capacity, limiting the organization's ability to offer programming outside of the warmer months.
