Have you heard about our Camp Liberty Summer Teen Program?

About the Teen Program

Designed just for teens ages 13 to 15, our Teen Program is where summer fun meets creativity, independence, and connection. It is a place to try new things, meet new people, and still enjoy the freedom that comes with being a teen.

This program offers positive, exciting opportunities to build friendships through recreation, creative and performing arts, field trips, community service, and limited screen time. It is more than a place to hang out. It is a space where teens play sports, act in performances, design sets and costumes, create art, and just enjoy being themselves.

Programming takes place at Camp Liberty, where teens will participate in group activities in art, theater, dance, and recreation. They will be offered one period for swimming, where possible (working around field trip schedules).

🤝Participation Expectations

Teens will participate in a wide variety of activities throughout each session. Our teen coordinators create the program with teens in mind, but with that being said not every activity will match every teen’s personal interests. Our expectation is that all teens take part in scheduled activities, even if it is not their favorite. Trying new things and participating as a group are key parts of the Teen Program experience.

During group activities, teens are expected to remain with the cohort.

For example, if the group is playing a volleyball game, teens may not leave the activity to do something else. This helps maintain safety, fairness, and group connection.

🚌...Field Trips

Field trips are an important and required part of the Teen Program and are designed to enhance the overall experience for participants. We ask that all teens take part in scheduled field trips whenever possible. If a parent or guardian chooses to have their teen not attend a field trip for any reason other than a documented medical concern, the teen will need to remain home for the day. Medical-related exceptions will be accommodated with appropriate notice.

📴Phone Policy

To support connection, focus, and engagement, phones will be collected during group activities. Teens will have designated times when phones may be used, such as lunch, fieldtrips, or on the bus. This helps ensure that everyone is present, participating, and respectful of the group experience.

Soil Remediation at Camp Liberty

During Fall 2024, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) notified us that they would be conducting routine soil testing at Camp Liberty. This type of testing is regularly done across state-managed properties, including Liberty State Park. In June 2025, we were informed that two soil samples taken from the large play field showed slightly elevated levels of arsenic, which occurs naturally in soil in our region. In addition, dieldrin was detected in some areas approximately six inches below the surface. While these findings did not pose an immediate health risk, NJDEP recommended closing the field for Summer 2025 out of an abundance of caution while additional testing and potential remediation were completed.

We are happy to share that Phase 1 of the soil remediation will be completed before Camp 2026. This means we will have expanded access to much of the site, including our fields, playground, covered pavilion, indoor spaces, handball and basketball courts, and in-ground swimming pool. The softball field, however, will not be ready in time for the summer.

Even so, Camp Liberty will continue to offer a full and engaging program. While softball will not be available this summer, all other sports and activities will run as planned, and campers will still have plenty of space to play, explore, and enjoy their camp experience.
