About  Educational Arts Team's

Camp Liberty

Located At: 300 Morris Pesin Drive, Jersey City, NJ, 07305 in Liberty State Park

At Camp Liberty children spend the day  creating and growing in an environment grounded in social-emotional learning.

What truly sets Camp Liberty apart is choice - the freedom to choose.

Campers, ages 6-12, shape their own day, and no matter which activities they choose, they experience creativity, confidence, decision-making skills, teamwork, conflict resolution, inclusion, and a deeper sense of self.

Camp Liberty has served generations of families. It is a point of pride that many former campers return as counselors, carrying the spirit of the camp forward. At its core, Camp Liberty offers what all children need: a safe, creative space where they can learn, play, and develop independence.

For over 50 summers, Camp Liberty has been a place where fun and growth go hand in hand. Camp Liberty offers a rare opportunity for children to unplug from technology and fully engage in outdoor play—something increasingly hard to find in Jersey City. Campers choose from a wide range of activities including theater, dance, ceramics, music, visual arts, capture the flag, soccer, dodgeball, basketball, handball, volleyball, Gaga Ball, and of course, swimming.

Our goal is simple and powerful: that every camper leaves Camp Liberty with unforgettable memories, a stronger sense of who they are, and tools to navigate the world with creativity, confidence, and connection. Educational Arts Team’s core philosophy—connecting creativity with critical thinking to spark personal growth and build self-esteem—is at the heart of everything we do at Camp Liberty.

    Soil Remediation at Camp Liberty

During Fall 2024, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) notified us that they would be conducting routine soil testing at Camp Liberty. This type of testing is regularly done across state-managed properties, including Liberty State Park. In June 2025, we were informed that two soil samples taken from the large play field showed slightly elevated levels of arsenic, which occurs naturally in soil in our region. In addition, dieldrin was detected in some areas approximately six inches below the surface. While these findings did not pose an immediate health risk, NJDEP recommended closing the field for Summer 2025 out of an abundance of caution while additional testing and potential remediation were completed.

We are happy to share that Phase 1 of the soil remediation will be completed before Camp 2026. This means we will have expanded access to much of the site, including our fields, playground, covered pavilion, indoor spaces, handball and basketball courts, and in-ground swimming pool. The softball field, however, will not be ready in time for the summer.

Even so, Camp Liberty will continue to offer a full and engaging program. While softball will not be available this summer, all other sports and activities will run as planned, and campers will still have plenty of space to play, explore, and enjoy their camp experience.

Camper Eligibility

To be eligible to attend Camp Liberty, a camper must turn six by the first day of the desired session. All campers must be able to independently use the bathroom and change into and out of swim attire without assistance from a counselor. Campers should be able to participate in a group setting, as well as choose an activity, and stick with that activity for about 45-60 minutes. Campers should be able to participate safely and appropriately within a 1:15 ratio of staff to campers. We expect all campers, staff, and families to contribute to a safe camp environment for all.

Campers are expected to function in a group setting in a positive and cooperative manner that displays kindness, acceptance and respect for self and others. If your camper needs an accommodation to have a successful camp experience, please contact us to further discuss by emailing us at campliberty@educationalartsteam.org or by calling 201-432-1912.

🎟Scholarships

As always, Camp Liberty strives to promote inclusion and equity in our community. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to making our program accessible to all, regardless of income. Educational Arts Team will be offering full and partial scholarships based on household income. We are accepting 2024 and 2025 tax returns as proof of income. Please contact us if you have any difficulty providing a tax return.

Scholarships will open on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1pm and closes Thursday, February 12 at 4pm. They are offered on a first come first serve basis and are contingent upon funding. Separate spots are held for scholarship campers. Completing this application does not guarantee your child a spot at Camp Liberty. Many families choose to register for Camp when registration opens to guarantee their spot, and if they are awarded a scholarship, it is applied to the remaining balance. If you are not awarded a scholarship, customizable payment plans are available.

Our goal is to support as many families as we can. We distribute scholarships as our funding allows. We create a waiting list for families if they are not awarded a scholarship as we look for additional scholarship funders.

During the FIFA World Cup, Liberty State Park will host official FIFA watch parties for every match. This will take place from June 11, 2026 through July 19, 2026 and is expected to draw up to 100,000 additional visitors to the park on game days.

As a result, families should expect significant traffic and delays when entering and exiting the park.
