Camp Program Design (Ages 6-12)
Campers ages 6-12 are split into four color groups and activities are offered to specific age groups so that campers are in activities with peers their own age and are participating in age appropriate activities. The day is split into 4 periods plus lunch, in which the campers have the freedom to choose, with certain parameters and assistance, from an array of activities being offered for their age group.
We begin our day in a group setting, with all of our campers gathered underneath our covered pavilion area. During this time, we either sing a camp song as a group or campers listen to a story from one of our counselors. We then announce the activities being offered for specific color groups for that period. Each age group is offered a variety of activities throughout the day such as art, recreation, music, gardening, dance and theater.

At the end of every session, we invite parents/guardians, family members, and members of our community to join us at Camp to see what their campers have been up to. Campers and staff put together a play where campers perform and create the scenery and props for the show. There is also an art exhibit, sports game, and more depending on the session.

Yes, all medication must be accompanied by an action plan signed by the camper’s doctor with specific instructions on when and how the medication is to be administered.
Camp staff cannot directly administer the medication as the camper must be able to independently administer the medication.

In accordance with the NJ Department of Health, Camp Liberty has a Health Director, and multiple staff members, who are certified in First Aid/Basic Life Support.
We do not have a nurse on staff.
What is Camp Liberty’s Cell Phone Policy?
Camp Liberty is a safe space where campers disconnect from technology, connect with nature, and socialize with peers. Camp is a time for new experiences to make new friends, and cell phones can take away from this experience. We ask that all cell phones remain on silent and in a camper's backpack during the Camp day so they can actively participate in our art, recreation, swimming, dance, and theater activities on our beautiful 5 acres of land.
If a camper is seen with their cell phone during the camp day, our staff will ask them to put their cell phones away in their backpacks. Our staff may instruct the camper to leave their cell phone in the main office for safe keeping. If it is a recurring problem, the camper will have a conversation with the main office and their parents/guardians will be notified.
Camp Liberty is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. If a camper brings their cell phone to Camp, the camper and their parents/guardians assume all responsibility if the item is lost or stolen. Camp Liberty will not tolerate the misuse of cell phones, including but not limited to the use of cell phones in changing spaces, the sharing or taking of inappropriate pictures and bullying.
How We Handle Hot Days
-
Hydration: Keeping our campers hydrated is our top priority. We encourage frequent water breaks throughout the day and have water stations set up around the camp. Please send your child with a refillable water bottle, clearly labeled with their name, which they can use to stay hydrated.
-
Shade and Cooling Areas: We have designated shaded areas and cooling zones where campers can take breaks from the sun. Activities are often relocated to these areas during peak sun hours to provide relief from the heat. Additionally, we have indoor spaces available for cooling down when needed.
-
Sunscreen: We ask that you apply sunscreen to your camper before arriving at camp. We also have scheduled sunscreen breaks where staff members remind campers to reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Please ensure your child brings their own sunscreen, labeled with their name, and has it readily accessible in their backpack.
-
Modified Activities: On particularly hot days, we modify our activity schedule to include more water-based games, less strenuous activities, and frequent rest periods. This helps prevent overheating and ensures campers continue to have fun in a safe manner.
-
Dress Code: We recommend that campers wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing to stay cool. Hats and sunglasses are also encouraged to protect against the sun.
-
Health Monitoring: Our staff is trained to recognize signs of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. We continuously monitor campers for any signs of distress and take immediate action if needed. First aid and medical supplies are readily available, and staff are prepared to respond promptly to any health concerns.
