About  Educational Arts Team's Camp Liberty

Often referred to as "the hidden gem” of Jersey City, EdArts sits on 5 acres of land and is a place of contrast: a suburban camp in an urban setting. A fifty-year old institution serving Jersey City students, youth, families, and educators, EdArts delivers over 300 school-based art education programs and enrolls over 400 campers through out the summer during our “Camp Liberty” summer program.

EdArts engages young people with arts-based programs that connect creativity with critical thinking in order to stimulate personal growth and academic achievement by making their learning experience more meaningful. The arts provide powerful tools for children to achieve academic success, increase self-esteem, and are at the center of all EdArts programs. We believe all young people should have the opportunity to think, create, reflect, and be heard within a community of engaged learners.

Camp Liberty offers children ages 6 to 12 an outlet for artistic expression, a safe space to have social interactions, and structured recreational activities. The goal of Camp Liberty is to create a welcoming and safe environment using EdArts’ techniques grounded in the arts and social emotional learning, to make positive and memorable experiences and in turn nurture personal growth. We are proud of our 40+ year history of innovative camp programming that connects creativity with critical thinking to stimulate personal growth at Camp Liberty and beyond. Camp Liberty is located in Liberty State Park, and includes an in-ground swimming pool, softball field, multi-purpose field, handball courts, playground, changing areas, covered pavilion, gazebo, and stage. Campers can choose from an array of activities such as theater, ceramics, arts & crafts, recreation, dance, music, swimming, and more.

Teen Summer Camp Liberty (Ages 13 - 15)

Have you heard about our Camp Liberty Summer Teen Program? We offer teens ages 13 to 15 positive and exciting opportunities to build bonds through on site activities in recreation, creative and performing arts, field trips, community service and limited screen time.

The Camp Liberty Teen program is more than just a place to hang out, it’s a place where teens have the opportunity to enjoy fun and engaging activities on site at Camp Liberty such as swimming, dance, theater & improv, volleyball, handball, basketball, scenery design and more. This program is designed to offer a different experience compared to the younger campers. Parents/guardians can anticipate that their teens will experience:

  • A safe place to socialize and recreate with their peers

  • Workshops in leadership and life skills

  • Team building and collaboration

  • Fun, creative games, swimming, theater, sports and art activities

  • Limited screen time

  • 1 field trip per session

The teen program will take place during sessions 1, 2, 3 & 4.

Camper Eligibility

To be eligible to attend Camp Liberty, a camper must turn six by the first day of the desired session. All campers must be able to independently use the bathroom and change into and out of swim attire without assistance from a counselor. Campers should be able to participate in a group setting, as well as choose an activity, and stick with that activity for about 45-60 minutes. Campers should be able to participate safely and appropriately within a 1:15 ratio of staff to campers. We expect all campers, staff, and families to contribute to a safe camp environment for all.

Campers are expected to function in a group setting in a positive and cooperative manner that displays kindness, acceptance and respect for self and others. If your camper needs an accommodation to have a successful camp experience, please contact us to further discuss by emailing us at info@educationalartsteam.org or by calling 201-432-1912.

Scholarships

As always, Camp Liberty strives to promote inclusion and equity in our community. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to making our program accessible to all, regardless of income. Educational Arts Team will be offering full and partial scholarships based on household income. We are accepting 2023 tax returns as proof of income. Please contact us if you have any difficulty providing a tax return.

Scholarships will open on February 1 and closes February 15. They are offered on a first come first serve basis and are contingent upon funding. Separate spots are held for scholarship campers. Completing this application does not guarantee your child a spot at Camp Liberty. Many families choose to register for Camp when registration opens to guarantee their spot, and if they are awarded a scholarship, it is applied to the remaining balance. If you are not awarded a scholarship, customizable payment plans are available.
